China is a civilization rather than simply a country — five thousand years of continuous history compressed into a landscape that ranges from the ancient ramparts of the Great Wall to the futuristic skyline of Shanghai. Few destinations on Earth offer such a complete spectrum of human achievement within a single journey.
In Beijing, the Forbidden City reveals the scale and symmetry of imperial power, while the Great Wall winds across mountain ridges built to hold back centuries of invasion. Xi'an's Terracotta Army stands in silent formation, an entire afterlife army built for a single emperor. Guilin's karst mountains rise from the Li River like an ink-wash painting come to life, and Shanghai's Bund offers a glittering counterpoint — a city racing into the future along the same river that has carried trade for centuries.
At Finders & Keepers Safaris, we design China journeys that move fluidly between these eras — imperial palaces, ancient armies, river landscapes and modern megacities — each day building toward a more complete understanding of how this extraordinary civilization became what it is today.

Jiangbeizui, Chongqing
Regent Chongqing stands in the Jiangbeizui financial district at the precise confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers — a position the brand calls the city’s first true urban resort, and one that gives almost every room a river to look at. All 202 rooms and suites average 57 square metres, generous by any standard, with the 21 suites averaging a remarkable 182.
The interiors are the work of designer Eric Tsay alongside ceramic artist Yu Le En and textile artist Lee Chen Lin, and they draw on ceramic, jade, metal and lacquer — materials used across Sichuan province for centuries. Red and amber textiles and gold lattice screens run through the public rooms, calm rather than ornate.
Directly across the water, the stilted, lantern-lit architecture of Hongyadong climbs the hillside and lights up each evening. It is one of Chongqing’s most photographed sights, and it is visible from the hotel’s own Two Rivers Bar — which is where most guests end up before dinner, hotpot or otherwise.
