Vietnam stretches more than a thousand miles from north to south, and the journey along its length reveals a country of extraordinary range — limestone karsts rising from emerald water, terraced rice fields climbing into the clouds, and ancient port towns still lit by silk lanterns after dark. Few countries pack so much visual and cultural variety into a single, narrow strip of land.
In the north, Ha Long Bay's thousands of limestone islands create one of the most photographed seascapes on Earth, often explored from the deck of a traditional wooden junk boat overnight. Hanoi's Old Quarter offers a dense, atmospheric introduction to Vietnamese street life, while further south, Hoi An's UNESCO-listed ancient town glows each evening under hundreds of coloured lanterns. The Mekong Delta closes the journey with floating markets and a slower, water-based rhythm entirely its own.
At Finders & Keepers Safaris, we design Vietnam journeys that follow this natural progression from north to south — limestone bays, ancient towns, and delta waterways — allowing each region's distinct character to unfold in turn.

Thu Bon River, Hoi An
Anantara Hoi An sits on the banks of the Thu Bon, the river that runs through Hoi An’s UNESCO-listed ancient town. The resort’s French colonial-inspired architecture echoes the trading-port heritage of the place, and its rooms look out over the water that carried that trade.
The old town is a short walk or boat ride away — wooden merchant houses, the Japanese Covered Bridge, and streets that were laid out when Hoi An was one of Southeast Asia’s busiest ports. After dark, thousands of silk lanterns are lit along the riverfront, and the walk back becomes the thing most guests remember.
On site, a cooking academy teaches central Vietnamese cuisine properly, from the market onwards — which is a good use of an afternoon in a town whose food is as celebrated as its architecture. Da Nang International Airport is around 45 minutes away.
