Depart Nairobi aboard Qatar Airways or Emirates, connecting into Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport. A private luxury transfer escorts you into the city through French colonial streets to Peridot Grand Luxury Boutique Hotel. After settling in, a luxury Vietnamese welcome dinner beside Hoan Kiem Lake is followed by a guided night walk through the Old Quarter — lantern-lit alleys, coffee houses that open at midnight, and street food stalls that have occupied the same corner for generations. Hanoi after dark is one of Southeast Asia's most seductive cities.
A guided day through Hanoi's iconic cultural sites — Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and its elegant lakeside surrounds, the Temple of Literature founded in 1070 as Vietnam's first university, Tran Quoc Pagoda on its West Lake peninsula, and the French colonial quarter's gracious boulevards. Afternoon brings the Oasis Café — one of Hanoi's most celebrated hidden aesthetic cafés, with tropical architecture and artistic interiors that feel entirely removed from the city's energy outside. The evening brings a traditional water puppet performance and dinner at a luxury rooftop restaurant overlooking the Hoan Kiem Lake skyline.

Board Vietnam's luxury sleeper train at Hanoi station for the overnight journey north toward Sapa. The train departs in the early evening, and as darkness falls, the urban landscape gives way to rice fields, river valleys, and the first limestone hills of the north. Private sleeping cabins are equipped with comfortable beds, climate control, and large windows. An onboard dining car serves Vietnamese dishes as the countryside passes in darkness. By morning, the train is climbing into the highlands — the valleys below filling with mist, the terraced hillsides of Lao Cai Province appearing in the grey light before sunrise.
Arrive in Lao Cai and transfer to Sapa — a highland town at 1,500 metres where the cool air, the terraced hillsides, and the daily presence of Hmong and Dao villagers in traditional dress create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Vietnam. A guided walk through Muong Hoa Valley descends through rice terraces in every shade of green, past water buffaloes working the paddy fields, through Hmong villages where indigo-dyed fabrics hang to dry and children follow visitors with curiosity. The terraces themselves — some over 700 years old, carved by hand from the mountainside — are a feat of engineering and beauty that is simply impossible to fully photograph. Check into Topas Ecolodge, its stone bungalows perched on a ridge with panoramic views of the valley.

Travel north to Ha Giang by private luxury vehicle — a journey through increasingly dramatic terrain as the road leaves the Sapa highlands and enters the truly remote north. Villages become smaller and more widely spaced. The limestone peaks grow taller and more vertical. By the time P'apiu Resort Ha Giang appears, you are in a landscape that feels genuinely untouched. Check in and spend the afternoon absorbing the valley views from the resort's terraced gardens. Dinner as the highland darkness falls and the stars above the mountains emerge without any light pollution to diminish them.
The Ha Giang Loop: a circuit of mountain road that passes through some of the most dramatic scenery in Southeast Asia. The morning route takes you across the Dong Van Karst Plateau — a UNESCO Global Geopark where 450-million-year-old limestone formations create a landscape that looks more lunar than terrestrial — then along Ma Pi Leng Pass, where the road clings to a cliff face above a gorge that drops hundreds of metres to the Nho Que River below. The river at the bottom is a colour between jade and turquoise that appears to have been invented for a painting. Hmong villages appear at intervals. Photography stops are frequent because every few hundred metres reveals a view that demands to be recorded. Return to the resort for dinner.
Travel to Cao Bang Province for the Ban Gioc Waterfalls — among the largest waterfalls on the Asian continent, dropping in three tiers through emerald-green landscape beside the Vietnam-China border. The approach by bamboo raft across the river toward the base of the falls is one of Vietnam's most memorable experiences: the sound building as you draw closer, the mist rising above the treeline before the falls themselves come into view. Nearby, Nguom Ngao Cave offers a limestone cave system of extraordinary scale and formation. Overnight at Saigon Ban Gioc Resort where the sound of the falls is audible from the rooms.
Travel south to Ninh Binh — the province known as "Ha Long Bay on land" for its limestone karsts rising directly from flooded rice fields. A luxury sampan boat ride through Trang An Landscape Complex (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) drifts through cave systems and karst valleys on water that reflects the mountains above. At Hang Mua viewpoint, a climb of 500 steps rewards with a panorama of the entire Ninh Binh landscape — rice fields, rivers, and limestone peaks stretching to every horizon. Ancient Hoa Lu, the tenth-century capital of Vietnam, adds historical depth to a day already full of visual spectacle. Check into Tam Coc Garden Resort for dinner.
Transfer to Ha Long Bay and board the Indochine Premium Cruise. As the vessel moves between Ha Long Bay's 1,969 limestone islands, kayaks are lowered for exploration of hidden lagoons and sea caves. Sunset is marked by cocktails on the upper deck as the limestone towers turn golden. A gourmet seafood dinner follows on board, and the night is spent at anchor in absolute silence — the bay completely still, the stars reflected in the water between the islands.

Disembark the cruise and board a domestic flight to Quang Binh — Vietnam's cave province, home to Son Doong (the world's largest cave) and its more accessible neighbour, Paradise Cave. Paradise Cave stretches for 31 kilometres underground, its main tourist section revealing chambers of extraordinary scale — some 150 metres high, filled with stalactites that took millions of years to form. The lighting has been carefully designed to reveal the cave's drama without diminishing its natural character. The Chay River runs through the jungle around the cave, and an afternoon kayaking through the forest on emerald water provides a complete contrast to the limestone interior. Check into Chay Lap Farmstay for dinner.
Fly to Da Nang, check into TIA Wellness Resort on the beachfront, and head to Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge. Two giant stone hands hold the pedestrian bridge 1,400 metres above sea level, above the mist that regularly obscures the mountains below. The cable car journey to reach it — among the world's longest — passes through cloud layers, the coast disappearing below and reappearing at intervals. Return to the resort for dinner by the South China Sea.
Transfer to Hoi An. Morning coconut basket boat rides through the Thu Bon River's palm forest. Afternoon in the Ancient Town — lantern-making workshops, the sixteenth-century merchant houses, the Japanese Covered Bridge, tailoring shops that can produce garments within a day. As evening falls, the city transforms. Lanterns in every colour illuminate every street. A lantern boat drifts along the Thu Bon as the floating candles pass beneath. Check into Anantara Hoi An Resort for a final riverside dinner.

Travel south to Quy Nhon — a city that has remained largely unknown to international tourism because it lacks a UNESCO listing or a famous landmark, which is precisely what makes it extraordinary. The beaches are long and pale and calm, backed by granite headlands. The fishing villages are authentic in a way that is increasingly rare on Vietnam's coast. Eo Gio — a wind-carved coastal formation of dramatic rock faces and narrow inlets — provides one of the day's photographic highlights. Check into Anya Premier Hotel Quy Nhon for dinner on the beachfront terrace.
Fly to Ho Chi Minh City — Vietnam's largest and most energetic metropolis. Check into The Reverie Saigon, then a Mekong Delta excursion takes you south of the city by private boat through the floating markets, coconut candy factories, and river villages of one of Southeast Asia's most extraordinary water landscapes. Return to the city in the late afternoon, then transfer to Mui Ne — the coastal resort town of sand dunes and kite surfers. The red dunes glow as the sun sets behind them. Check into Anantara Mui Ne Resort for dinner on the beach.
Board a domestic flight to Phu Quoc — Vietnam's island paradise in the Gulf of Thailand. White sand beaches, coral gardens, tropical beach clubs, and the Sun World cable car crossing three kilometres of open ocean create a finale that is deliberately slow and beautiful. Check into Salinda Resort Phu Quoc Island. The afternoon is for swimming and resting. As your international departure time approaches, private transfers escort you to Phu Quoc International Airport for your connecting flights back to Nairobi. Fifteen days of Vietnam — from its northern mountains to its southern islands — conclude.
