Itinerary

Nairobi

Day 1 | Arrival in Kenya – Welcome to East Africa

Your East African adventure begins the moment your aircraft touches down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. A Finders & Keepers Safaris representative welcomes you, assists with immigration where necessary, and escorts you to a waiting luxury transfer vehicle.

The drive into Nairobi reveals a fascinating blend of modern Africa and traditional East African culture — skyscrapers, bustling markets, colourful public transport and roadside vendors. Upon arrival at the JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi, one of the city's newest luxury landmarks, you're welcomed with refreshing drinks before check-in. The rest of the day is left unscheduled to recover from travel — relax beside the rooftop infinity pool, enjoy the spa, or simply unwind in your suite before a welcome dinner in one of the hotel's signature restaurants.

Day 2 | Nairobi National Park, Giraffe Centre & Animal Orphanage

After a lavish breakfast, depart for one of Africa's most unique wildlife experiences. Nairobi National Park is the only place in the world where you can witness lions, rhinos, giraffes and zebra roaming freely against the backdrop of a major city's skyline. A private morning game drive through open grasslands, acacia woodland and seasonal wetlands offers exceptional photographic opportunities, with black and white rhino, lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and hyena all commonly encountered.

From there, visit the Giraffe Centre to hand-feed endangered Rothschild giraffes from elevated platforms, followed by the Animal Orphanage — home to rescued lions, cheetahs, leopards and birds of prey undergoing rehabilitation. Lunch is served at a Nairobi restaurant blending local and international cuisine, with stops along the way for fresh tropical juices, Kenyan coffee and local snacks. Return to the hotel in the afternoon to relax before dinner.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Tarangire National Park

Day 3 | Flight to Tanzania – Immediate Transfer to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Wilson Airport for your regional flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport (approximately 1 hour 15 minutes), with views over Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru and the surrounding plains on clear days. After clearing immigration, your Tanzanian guide is waiting in the arrivals hall with your private luxury Land Cruiser — fully equipped with high-back seats, charging ports, binoculars, a cooler box and a first-aid kit.

The 2.5–3 hour drive to Tarangire National Park doubles as your first Tanzanian game drive, passing villages, Maasai settlements and baobab-filled landscapes. Inside the park, massive baobab trees and elephant herds dominate the horizon, with sightings of lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest along the way. Arriving in the late afternoon at the magnificent Nimali Tarangire Luxury Lodge, guests settle into elegant suites with outdoor showers and bush views before a first Tanzanian sundowner overlooking the Tarangire River and dinner blending international fine dining with Tanzanian flavours.

Day 4 | Full Day Tarangire National Park Safari

The day begins before sunrise, with fresh Tanzanian coffee delivered to your suite as the wilderness wakes. A morning game drive departing around 6:30 AM explores the Tarangire River, elephant migration corridors and acacia forests — Tarangire hosts some of the largest elephant concentrations in East Africa, with families numbering in the hundreds moving through the landscape alongside lion, cheetah, leopard and giraffe.

Mid-morning brings a luxurious bush breakfast beneath an acacia tree, with a chef preparing eggs to order as wildlife roams nearby. After resting through the warmer hours by the pool that seems to float above the savannah, an afternoon game drive and sundowner overlook the river as elephant families gather to drink in the golden light. The evening closes with fine dining and a bonfire on the main deck.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Lake Manyara National Park

Day 5 | Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park

After a leisurely breakfast, depart by road for Lake Manyara National Park (1.5–2 hours), passing through the vibrant town of Mto wa Mbu — famous for its cultural diversity and bustling market, where you can stop for fresh mangoes, sugarcane juice, chapati and Tanzanian tea.

Lake Manyara offers a completely different safari experience: dense groundwater forests, troops of baboons and blue monkeys, and a vast alkaline lake that attracts flamingos and hundreds of bird species. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, alongside elephant, hippo, buffalo and giraffe. A gourmet picnic lunch is served with views of the Rift Valley Escarpment, followed by an afternoon game drive along the lakeshore and groundwater forest before returning by road to Nimali Tarangire Luxury Lodge for the evening.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Day 6 | Tarangire to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Following breakfast, begin the 3–4 hour drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing into Tanzania's cooler highland region through rolling hills, coffee plantations and Maasai villages, with stops for fresh Tanzanian coffee and panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley.

Entering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a truly memorable moment — one of the world's largest intact volcanic calderas, with open grasslands, forests, lakes and marshes stretching below the crater rim. Arrive in the afternoon at the iconic &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, widely regarded as one of Africa's most luxurious safari properties, with exceptional architecture, fireplace lounges, personal butler service and uninterrupted crater views from nearly every point. The remainder of the afternoon is reserved for afternoon tea, spa treatments and sunset viewing, followed by dinner overlooking the crater.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7 | Full Day Ngorongoro Crater Experience

Depart before sunrise for a full day exploring the legendary Ngorongoro Crater, often called 'Africa's Eden'. The 45-minute descent through mist-covered forests leads into one of the highest concentrations of wildlife found anywhere on the continent — black rhino, lion, buffalo, elephant, hyena, wildebeest, zebra, hippo and flamingo are all commonly encountered, making the crater one of the best places in Africa to find the Big Five within a single day.

A beautifully prepared picnic lunch is served near a hippo pool, followed by further exploration of the Lerai Forest, Lake Magadi and surrounding grasslands. In the late afternoon, ascend back to the crater rim for a sundowner at a scenic viewpoint as the crater floor glows gold in the fading light, before returning to the lodge for cocktails and dinner.

Serengeti National Park

Day 8 | Scenic Bush Flight to the Serengeti

After breakfast, a short road transfer takes you to the nearby airstrip for a scenic bush flight to the Serengeti (1–1.5 hours) — an unforgettable aerial safari over endless golden plains, winding rivers, granite kopjes and migration routes that reveal the true scale of the ecosystem.

Upon landing, your Serengeti guide welcomes you and the safari resumes immediately, with sightings of lion, elephant, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, cheetah and hyena en route to camp. The journey concludes at the magnificent Grumeti River Lodge, situated within one of the Serengeti's most exclusive wildlife regions and famous for large lion prides, river crossings and exceptional predator activity. The afternoon is reserved for relaxation, followed by sundowners over the Grumeti River and dinner beneath the stars.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 9 | Serengeti National Park – The Endless Plains

The next four days are dedicated to one of the most celebrated wildlife destinations on Earth. These days are intentionally flexible, customised according to wildlife movements, weather and your preferences — no two game drives are ever the same. Mornings begin before sunrise with coffee in your suite before heading into open savannah plains, granite kopjes, river systems and migration corridors, with sightings ranging from lion and leopard to cheetah, elephant, hippo and crocodile.

A gourmet bush lunch is served beneath an acacia tree at midday, with warm afternoon hours free for spa treatments, the pool, or photography from the lodge. As temperatures cool, an evening game drive and sundowner search for predators in the golden light, before returning for dinner beneath a canopy of stars and lanterns, with campfire conversation and the sounds of the African night all around.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 10 | Serengeti National Park – Hot Air Balloon Safari

This day begins earlier than any other — at 4:00 AM. After coffee and light refreshments, transfer through the darkness to the balloon launch site, where the massive balloon inflates against a star-filled sky. As first light appears, climb into the basket and rise above the Serengeti.

The balloon drifts for approximately one hour over golden plains, rivers of wildlife, elephants, lions resting on kopjes and giraffes moving through acacia woodland. Landing leads straight into a champagne bush breakfast beneath acacia trees — one of East Africa's most iconic safari traditions. After breakfast, continue with a morning game drive informed by other spotters during the flight, then return to the lodge to rest before a final evening game drive and farewell sundowner, followed by a special farewell dinner beneath the stars.

Day 11 | Serengeti National Park – Final Safari Day

Your final full day in the Serengeti unfolds with no strict schedule. Depart before sunrise for one last morning in the wilderness — your guide will return to a favourite location or search for a species you haven't yet seen. A luxurious bush breakfast is served at a scenic spot beneath an acacia tree, followed by a final game drive sharing last insights about the wildlife and conservation efforts that protect this extraordinary place.

Return to Grumeti River Lodge for lunch, with the afternoon reserved for packing, relaxation and final photography. The evening mirrors your first night here — sundowners over the river, dinner beneath the stars, and the sounds of Africa surrounding you, though by now the Serengeti has left its mark.

Nairobi

Day 12 | Serengeti to Nairobi – Spa, Wellness & Farewell

After breakfast, bid farewell to Grumeti River Lodge and transfer to the Serengeti airstrip — the drive itself often produces final sightings of elephant, giraffe, lion and zebra. Board your flight back to Nairobi (2–2.5 hours), watching the golden Serengeti plains give way to the green hills of the Rift Valley and finally the Nairobi skyline.

Upon arrival, a Finders & Keepers Safaris representative transfers you to the JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi. As a special conclusion to the safari, enjoy a complimentary wellness experience at the JW Marriott Spa — full body massage, aromatherapy, steam room and sauna access — designed to leave you refreshed before your journey home. The afternoon is at leisure, with a memorable farewell dinner featuring a tasting menu that celebrates Kenyan cuisine.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 13 | Departure – Until We Meet Again

Enjoy a leisurely final breakfast at the JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi — fresh fruit, pastries, eggs prepared to your liking, and a pot of Kenya's famous coffee. There is no rush and no early wake-up call.

Depending on your international flight time, enjoy one final spa treatment, relax by the rooftop pool, or take a walk through Nairobi's leafy neighbourhoods. At the appropriate time, a Finders & Keepers Safaris representative escorts you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (approximately 30–50 minutes), accompanying you to check-in to ensure everything is in order.

Want to adjust the pace, swap a lodge, or extend this journey?

We are here for that. Every Finders & Keepers Safaris itinerary is a starting point, not a fixed departure — the pace, the lodges, the length, the dates and the party travelling can all be reshaped around you. Tell us what you would change and a specialist will rebuild the journey and price it honestly, before you commit to anything.

Journey Details

Minimum Age

Varies by camp, activity and national park

  • Camps and lodges — Most safari camps accept children from six years, with shared game-drive vehicles usually from eight to twelve. Many properties will take younger children on a privately booked vehicle.
  • Walking safaris — Guided walking safaris carry a firm minimum of fifteen or sixteen years across most reserves. This is set by the licensing authority, not the camp, and is never waived.
  • Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking — Uganda and Rwanda both enforce a strict minimum of fifteen years. It is a national park regulation and there are no exceptions.
  • Hot-air balloon safaris — Operators generally require children to be at least seven, and tall enough to brace unaided in the basket on landing.
  • Family and exclusive-use camps — A number of our camps run dedicated family units, child-minding and tailored activity programmes, and will relax their usual age limit for a sole-use booking.
  • Talk to us first — Age limits vary from property to property and from activity to activity. Speak to our experts before you book, and we will pre-arrange the details with each lodge around the ages of the children travelling with you.

Safari Duffel

Duffel, safari hat, vest and hooded jumper

  • Your duffel — A soft-sided Finders & Keepers Safaris duffel, sized for the 15 kg limit on the light aircraft that move you between camps. Rigid suitcases cannot be carried on those flights at all.
  • What is inside it — A branded Finders & Keepers Safaris safari hat, a safari vest, and a hooded jumper for cold dawn starts and balloon mornings.
  • Yours to keep — The bag and everything in it is a gift, not a loan. Nothing is returned at the end of your journey.
  • Packing around it — Soft luggage, neutral colours, and layers. Laundry is included at nearly every camp, which is why 15 kg goes further than it sounds.

Note

Migration timing varies with seasonal rains

The wildebeest migration moves across the Serengeti ecosystem on a roughly annual cycle driven by rainfall, so exact river-crossing locations shift year to year. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for all safari areas.

  • Early starts — Safaris begin very early in the morning. Your guide will confirm what time you will be collected from your camp or lodge.
  • Tailoring this journey — If you would like this package with more or fewer days, arranged for a group, a family or a solo traveller, or with add-ons, reach out and we will tailor it for you.
  • Route changes — Your guide or driver may alter the route in certain circumstances, but every destination set out in the itinerary will be covered.

Documents

Visa on arrival or e-Visa, from $50

  • Passport — Valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date, with at least two blank pages for stamps.
  • Two visas, not one — The East Africa Tourist Visa does not include Tanzania. You need Kenya’s eTA and a separate Tanzanian eVisa or visa on arrival — US$50 single entry, or the US$100 multiple-entry visa for US passport holders.
  • Crossing at Namanga or Isebania — Overland crossings are straightforward but slow. Carry both authorisations printed; border connectivity is unreliable.
  • Yellow fever — A vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from, or have transited, a country with yellow fever risk.
  • We file it for you — Whether you are flying in from overseas or travelling from elsewhere on the continent, we complete and submit your visa application on your behalf. You hand us your documents once. We do the filing, chase the approval, and carry the confirmations in your travel pack so nothing rests on you remembering a reference number at a counter.
  • Most of Africa is open to you — The great majority of our African destinations are now either visa-free or issue a visa on arrival, so an embassy queue is rarely in your future at all. Where a visa on arrival does apply, we prepare and lodge the paperwork ahead of you — you reach the desk with a finished file rather than a blank form and a biro.
  • Before you travel — Entry rules change frequently and without much notice. Your specialist confirms the current requirements for every passport in your party at the time of booking, and checks them again before you fly.

Guaranteed Departures

Private, tailor-made departures on your dates, or join a small group

  • Once confirmed, you travel — When your departure date is confirmed, it is guaranteed. We do not cancel, merge or reschedule a confirmed departure for commercial reasons, however the final numbers fall.
  • What confirms a departure — A departure becomes confirmed once the agreed number of travellers has been reached and paid for in line with the agreed payment schedule. Places held without payment do not count towards it.
  • If the minimum is not reached — Where a group departure has not reached its agreed numbers, we tell you early rather than late, and you choose: move to the next available date, continue at a revised small-group rate, or take a full refund of everything you have paid.
  • Solo journeys — Solo and tailor-made itineraries carry no group minimum at all. Your dates are confirmed the moment your deposit is received.
  • Visas — We prepare and submit your visa application on your behalf. Please note that the granting of a visa rests solely with the immigration authority of the country concerned, and is never guaranteed by us.
  • Medication — We arrange malaria prophylaxis, together with anti-nausea and anti-anxiety tablets, for your journey. Any prescription medicine should be confirmed with your own doctor before you travel — they remain the final authority on what is suitable for you.
  • Africa is not always hot — Despite the stereotype, Africa moves through distinct seasons and mornings at altitude can be genuinely cold. A hooded jumper is provided for cold conditions, and for every guest joining a hot-air balloon safari.
  • Dietary requirements — If you have strict dietary needs, please tell us at the time of booking. This includes vegans, guests in recovery, non-drinkers, and anyone following a prescription from their doctor.
  • Travel insurance — We facilitate travel insurance for our clients. If you are already covered, please say so during booking so we can take it into account in your final quote.
  • Tailoring your quote — Some of our inclusions — hot-air balloon safaris, for example — may not be what you want. Point these out and we will adjust your final offer accordingly.
  • The Maasai massage & spa recovery — Guests travelling the safari circuit by road rather than by air should expect long and tiring days. The rough terrain of the jungle gives the vehicle a constant jolting ride, known affectionately as the Maasai massage. A spa session is provided at the end of your safari to recover.
  • What to pack — Neutral colours are the rule on safari: khaki, olive, stone and brown. Avoid black and dark blue, which draw tsetse flies, and leave camouflage at home entirely — it is reserved for the military and illegal for civilians in several African countries. Bring layers for cold dawn game drives, long sleeves and trousers for dusk when the mosquitoes are out, closed walking shoes, a sun hat and sunglasses. Lodge dinners are smart-casual; nothing formal is needed.
  • Your safari duffel & kit — The duffel bag is used when flying into the parks, where luggage is limited to 15 kg per person. A branded Finders & Keepers Safaris safari hat and safari vest are also provided.
