Overview
Eighteen Sixty-Five
Two hundred and sixteen rooms in the heart of the Bernese Oberland.
Eduard Ruchti opened the Hotel Victoria in 1865, bought the neighbouring Hotel Jungfrau thirty years later, and in 1899 had the two joined by the dome-topped central block that still fronts the Höheweg. What it offered then was startling — a telephone system, a hydraulic lift, and electric light in every room. What it offers now is 216 rooms, a Belle Époque core restored through the 1980s, and the single best hotel view in the Oberland: straight down the lawns and up the valley to the snow on the Jungfrau.
The valley view is the whole point. Front-facing rooms look directly up the Lauterbrunnen valley to the Jungfrau massif. They cost more and they are worth it.
