Overview

A Private Island
Mid-Rapids

Nestled in lush rainforest on a private island mid-stream in the mighty Nile, Wildwaters Lodge is only reached by boat — one of the most singular settings of any lodge in East Africa.

Kalagala Island covers roughly six hectares of thick riverine forest, perched on granite rock some 25km downstream from Jinja, the source of the Nile and Uganda's self-styled adventure capital. The lodge's ten timber-floored suites are linked to the restaurant and bar by elevated wooden walkways winding through the forest canopy, each opening onto a private deck with a freestanding bath and wash basin carved from local pink granite. The main lodge sits on a solid rock peninsula amid the rapids themselves, close enough that their thunder is a constant, calming presence throughout a stay.
