Overview
The Island Nobody Visits
A comfortable base on the fifth-largest Greek island, and the crossing point to Turkey.
The Chios Chandris sits at the far end of a natural bay with views out over the Aegean, and it is the practical base for an island most travellers never reach. Chios is the fifth-largest Greek island, famous for mastic — the resin that grows nowhere else in the world in this form — and it lies just eighteen kilometres off the Turkish coast. The hotel is within walking distance of the town’s museums, castle and market, and close to the Homerion Culture Centre.
This is where you cross to Turkey. The Chios–Çešme ferry is eighteen kilometres and about twenty minutes, with up to five sailings a day. It is a full international border crossing, and one of the few places you can walk between Greece and Turkey in under half an hour.
