Perched 1,000ft above the Mara Triangle on the Oloololo Escarpment — where Africa's great herds move below and three kopjes once framed the making of Out of Africa.

Overview
Welcome to the Real World
Angama's contemporary design breaks from the traditional safari mould. Set along the rim of the Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara pairs sweeping views over Kenya's Maasai Mara with an architectural language drawn straight from the land beneath it.
The lodge's setting looks down onto what many safari travellers consider the finest game reserve on the continent. Its Tented Suites stretch across two kopjes on the edge of the escarpment; a third kopje, immediately recognisable to film lovers, is where some of the most memorable scenes from Out of Africa were shot. Angama Mara's architecture carries real drama — red brickwork inspired by the finish of local Maasai dwellings, set against glass, canvas and the endless sky beyond.
One of three Angama addresses. Angama Mara sits alongside the intimate, four-tent Angama Safari Camp deeper in the Mara, and the elephant-inspired Angama Amboseli, tucked into the jewelbox of Kimana Sanctuary beneath Kilimanjaro. This page covers Angama Mara alone.

Experiences
The Toughest of Choices
Guests staying with Angama face the toughest of choices: how to spend the day. A sunrise hot-air balloon safari over the plains, photographing Africa's abundant wildlife, a romantic picnic for two, or beading with the Maasai — each a starting point for planning the adventure.

Dining
From the Shamba to the Table
A one-acre kitchen garden, the Shamba, supplies the freshest produce on the escarpment — herbs and vegetables guests can pick themselves before lunch. There is no single dining room at Angama Mara; meals move to wherever the light is best.

Location
Between Heaven and Earth
Set on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, there is little conventional about Angama Mara's setting — views stretch across the Maasai Mara, 1,000ft below. The 700-hectare site directly borders the Mara Triangle, with 1.2km of Rift Valley frontage, its own forests and game close at hand.
The rare beauty of the site has an emotional effect on visitors — an almost dreamlike quality of being somewhere "between heaven and earth".
Guests instantly connect with the romance of the setting, where some of the loveliest scenes from Out of Africa were filmed.
No Tented Suite has the best view, nor the worst — all are spread along the edge of the Rift Valley.
Unrivalled exclusivity, with a private road running directly into the Reserve — a mere 10-minute drive to the entrance.
