Overview
Nineteen Oh-Seven
Three hundred and seven rooms and seventy-eight suites, facing the Brandenburg Gate.
Lorenz Adlon, a cobbler’s son from Mainz, bought the Redern property in 1905 and had Carl Gause and Robert Leibniz build a hotel on it in two years. It opened on 23 October 1907, and Kaiser Wilhelm II insisted on being the first guest. What it offered then sounds ordinary now and was not: hot and cold running water, a ladies’ lounge, a music room, its own laundry and its own electric power plant, and an interior garden with an elephant fountain given by a Maharaja. There are 307 rooms and 78 suites today, and the address — the corner of Unter den Linden and Pariser Platz, directly across from the Brandenburg Gate — is the same one.
Gate-facing rooms are finite. Only a limited number of rooms and suites look directly onto Pariser Platz and the Brandenburg Gate. Request one by name.
